Population and Communities
Understanding Who May Be Affected
Demographic information provides planning context. It does not determine whether an environmental condition is Good, Needs Attention, a Serious Concern or Critical.

When verified regional and district environmental records are available, GEIS will combine them with official population totals to show how many people and communities may be exposed. It will not publish names, identification numbers or individual household records.
Current Verified Alerts
Official Environmental Alerts
Only alerts confirmed and published by the responsible authority will appear here.
This does not mean that Ghana has no environmental incidents. Live alerts will appear after participating agencies approve them for publication.
Report an Environmental Concern
Contact the Responsible Institution
GEIS does not accept unverified public incident submissions. Concerns should first be reported through the responsible institution’s approved channel.
Official telephone numbers, email addresses and reporting links will be added after each institution confirms its preferred public reporting channel.
How GEIS Works
From Collection to Public Update
Every published record follows the same controlled path.
- 1Draft
An authorised contributor records the location, date, measurement, source and supporting evidence.
- 2Submit
The completed draft enters the controlled workflow and can no longer be changed without being returned.
- 3Validate
A validator checks required fields, formats, units, locations, quality controls and possible duplicates.
- 4Review
A qualified reviewer examines the evidence, method, completeness and data quality.
- 5Authenticate
The responsible institution confirms the source and its authority over the information.
- 6Verify
An authorised verifier accepts, rejects or returns the authenticated record for correction.
- 7Publish
Only Published records update public indicators, maps and trends while GEIS retains the complete audit history.
